The Central University Library “Mihai Eminescu”, together with the Ready to Open Intercultural Spaces Association (ROIS Iasi), announces the holding of two thematic conferences, within the project “Restoration and rehabilitation of the historic building of the Central University Library “Mihai Eminescu” Iasi” – no. A3-11/2022
The events are included in the calendar of activities dedicated to the anniversary of BCU Iasi Days, organized this year between 6-11 November 2023, in several venues in Iasi, with the aim of developing a partnership through which BCU will enter the cultural-tourist circuit of Iasi and through which the general public will get to know the services and benefits offered. The programme of dedicated activities also includes two conferences on current topics, which will be attended by Romanian specialists, recognized both in academia and in the field of librarianship.

The debut conference, “Central University Libraries between the challenges of the “digital era” and the responsibility of heritage”, will be held by Prof. Valentin Șerdan-Orga, Director General of the Central University Library “Lucian Blaga” in Cluj-Napoca, one of the most renowned Romanian specialists in the field of library and information science. The conference proposed by him questions the relationship between traditional library services and resources and new technologies for access to information and documentation resources for tertiary education. As a member of the teaching staff of “Babeș-Bolyai” University of Cluj-Napoca, Professor Valentin Șerdan-Orga has a vast and valuable professional experience.

The conference “Digital technologies in the humanities: tools or content creators?” will be delivered by Prof. Dr. habil. Alexandru Nicolae, coordinator of one of the most important Romanian scientific publishers, the University of Bucharest Publishing House. His proposed conference explores the importance of digital collections created by Romanian university libraries and research centres in the development of modern access platforms to academic information and documentation resources. Professor Alexandru Nicolae has a thorough degree in library science, is one of the most appreciated contemporary Romanian linguists and works both at the Faculty of Letters of the University of Bucharest and at the Institute of Linguistics “Iorgu Iordan -Al. Rosetti” of the Romanian Academy.
