The launch of the Restoration and rehabilitation project of the historical monument building Central University Library "Mihai Eminescu" Iași

On Wednesday, June 22, 2022, the Central University Library “Mihai Eminescu” Iași, in partnership with the ROIS Association (Ready to Open Intercultural Spaces) organized the launch event of the project “Restoration and rehabilitation of the historical monument building Central University Library “Mihai Eminescu” Iași “, no. A3-11/2022, within the State Aid Scheme for the restoration and revitalization of historical monuments.

The palace of the “King Ferdinand I” Foundation, where the “Mihai Eminescu” Central University Library operates in Iași, appears in the List of Historical Monuments, updated in 2015, at no. 1151, having LMI code IS-II-m-B-03964.

Designed as a cultural center, the “King Ferdinand I” University Foundation Palace became, after the Second World War, the seat of the “Mihai Eminescu” Central University Library. The building impresses with its solemnity and elegance. The interior is made of Carrara marble and Venetian mosaic, and the exterior is decorated with slender fluted columns with Ionic capitals, Doric pilasters, small triangular pediments and medallions with figures of national culture.

By restoring the roof, modernizing the book stores in the basement, increasing the security of users, re-functionalizing some spaces intended for public events with wide participation and installing hi-tech equipment to intensify the cultural and tourist attractiveness (videomapping), the project amplifies and consolidates the consecration of the Foundation Palace ” King Ferdinand I” as a tourist point and as a cultural center of national and European reference. Thus, the headquarters of the Central University Library “Mihai Eminescu” in Iași will constitute a nucleus for the promotion of local, regional and national cultural values, by attracting a considerable number of visitors.
