Between 15-30 September 2023, the Central University Library “Mihai Eminescu” Iași organizes the book exhibition “The Romanian Village”. The event is held in partnership with the Institute of Romanian Philology “A. Philippide”, Department of Ethnology of the Romanian Academy – Iași Branch and marks the thirtieth anniversary of the European Heritage Days.
Realized within the project “Restoration and rehabilitation of the historical monument building of the Central University Library <<Mihai Eminescu>> Iași”, the exhibition presents a selection of books related to the Romanian village, especially in the area of Moldavia and Bucovina. The Romanian village will be captured in its defining elements – traditions and customs, folk costumes, vernacular architecture, traditional occupations. The exhibited volumes – books and albums – will bring to the public’s attention aspects related to past and present, tradition and renewal in the history of this important nucleus of Romanian life.
The exhibition, opened on Friday, 15 September 2023, at 11.00 noon, is a welcome return in time to the Romanian village of yesteryear, to its defining elements passed on to new generations as part of the common identity heritage. The tangible and intangible heritage included in the UNESCO heritage remain alive through constant and concerted actions of conservation and enhancement.
The conference preceding the opening of the exhibition will address topics such as the interruption of cultural transmission, migration, industrial alternatives and bottomless marketing – themes of reflection on the question “what solutions can we find today for Moldovan villages?”.
